FAQs

What is Tallow?
Beef tallow is rendered (boiled down) beef suet that has been purified of contaminants. Suet is the fat that surrounds the kidneys and is high in vitamins and minerals. After the suet has been rendered and cooled, we have a thicker product that may be placed into skin creams and lotions, makeup, or even used for cooking.

What are the benefits of tallow for skin?
Tallow skincare dates back hundreds of years, when humans would use tallow to nourish dry skin and treat wounds. This natural wonder is bioidentical to our skin’s oil secretion and sebum, and will not clog pores or cause irritation when applied to the skin.

Tallow has numerous advantages due to the nutrients it contains, including a high concentration of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, K2, B12, Choline, omega 3's, stearic acid, and conjugated linoleic acid. Tallow keeps moisture in the skin and works as a natural barrier due to the combination of nutrients. Tallow is a non-toxic, nourishing and healing skin moisturizer that may be absorbed by the body's largest organ.

Is your tallow grass-fed?
Yes! The reason grass-fed is crucial in this regard is that the amount of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) present varies greatly depending on what the animals consume. According to most estimations, grass-fed and grass-finished beef and dairy can have 300-500% more CLA than grain-fed animals.

CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) is an omega-6 fatty acid (naturally occurring trans fat) found largely in beef and dairy products. According to research, these fats may provide a variety of health benefits. These are not the same as the trans fats found in hydrogenated vegetable oils, which have been related to inflammation and obesity.

Does tallow melt?
The melting point of tallow is 95-104°F (35-40°C). To prevent melting during shipping during the warmer months, we use thermal wrapping and dry ice packs. If your product melts, the oils may separate, but this has no influence on the product's effectiveness. To resolidify the consistency, carefully whisk the oils together again and chill. Tallow should be stored in a cool dry area.

What is the shelf life of tallow?
Tallow can be stored for up to a year in the right conditions. Tallow can be frozen to increase its shelf life or stored in a cool, dry place away from moisture for regular use. Our tallow rendered without preservatives ensuring the purity of our product when properly stored.

Are your tallow balms safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Yes, our tallow is safe for topical use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
